In order to write a newsletter on your behalf, a writer has to
get to know you, your mission and your organization.
Gather previous brochures,
program books, press releases and other pertinent literature.
Make sure the writer has these materials in advance of an
initial interview.
Bernadette Stockwell, publisher of
Call The Writer, prepares
the client by sending along a questionnaire. “I feel the
questions offer a springboard to the interview and help get the
client’s mind working,” Stockwell said. “The interview itself
delves deeper and often uncovers a few jewels that become
treasures for the articles.”
Gather your logo and photos. Don’t
think your work lends itself to photography? Think again. How
often have you scanned through any written material without
looking at the pictures and captions first? Readers enjoy the
break that pictures provide in a field of words.
Be available for follow up questions and to preview the
newsletter prior to printing. Investing
in a quality newsletter takes time and care. A beautiful
newsletter will maximize your message and spread the good word
about your organization and your cause.
