“Learning becomes more long lasting
when
rooted in the student’s own discovery.”
Professor
Stockwell always brought the class to great discussions;
adding just enough to the conversation to let us draw our
own opinions and conclusions. She took great care to make
sure that the students had formulated there own personal
opinions of an article, short story, or some other form of
literature before expressing her own. Thus students were
allowed to be their own critic, and not be swayed or
influenced by the teacher, until they felt firm about their
own take on the material.
Professor Stockwell had creative ways of getting the class
to interact, that I have never seen displayed by any teacher
before. Instead of making the generic statement of,
‘everyone please pair up for a group assignment’, she would
have some fun way of putting the class into groups.
